The developers of Star Trucker, the critically acclaimed space lorry simulator from Raw Fury, have rolled out a substantial update to celebrate the game’s one-year anniversary. The headline feature is the long-awaited introduction of peripheral support for PC Gaming enthusiasts. Players can now connect and use dedicated steering wheels, pedals, joysticks, and throttles to control their interstellar big rig, significantly boosting the level of realism and immersion in the retro-futuristic world.

The initial implementation supports a range of popular devices, including various Thrustmaster and VKB flight stick models, with the developer, Monster and Monster, actively encouraging the community to help expand the compatibility tracking sheet. This move addresses a key request from the Truck Sim and broader Simulation Gaming community, whose members often use dedicated sim rigs for titles like Euro Truck Simulator and American Truck Simulator.

  • Supported Peripherals: Initial support targets multi-device setups, allowing the use of separate joysticks, throttles, wheels, and pedals.
  • Custom Bindings: The update includes customizable control bindings and non-linearity settings to help players fine-tune their unique hardware setups.
  • Hardware Focus: The goal is to provide a more unique and rewarding experience for driving a star truck using specialized peripherals.

H2: New Speed Cameras Introduce a Galactic Layer of Legal Risk and Challenge

In a surprising and balancing countermeasure to the enhanced control, the anniversary update also introduces Speed Traps across the galaxy’s roadways. This new mechanic adds a layer of consequence for aggressive driving, penalizing reckless truckers with fines for exceeding the posted speed limits. The static camera checkpoints are placed at specific locations and will flash, issuing a fine if a driver is caught speeding.

This addition not only provides a new gameplay loop but also integrates a familiar element from terrestrial trucking simulations, adding to the game’s core “trucker in space” theme. For players who prefer a less regulated experience, the developers have included the option to disable Speed Checks via the custom game settings, ensuring the game remains accessible to all playstyles.

The speed trap feature comes complete with two new unlockable paint job challenges for players who engage with the new system:

  • “Smokey Style” Livery: Unlocked by triggering 100 speed checks.
  • “Hot Pursuit” Livery: Unlocked by tripping a speed check while traveling at 200 km/h or more.

H2: Looking Ahead: The Star Trucker Roadmap

Beyond the major mechanical and realism updates, Monster and Monster have provided a glimpse into their development roadmap for the next year. Future plans include:

  • An upcoming Cargo Pack DLC and a major Business Venture Update, which will introduce new meta-gameplay, an NPC, and unique rewards.
  • The continued development of highly-requested features like Interior Customization for the truck cab.
  • Optimizations for the procedural Job Generator to enhance job variety and long-term replayability.
