In the expansive and perilous kingdom of Pharloom, Hornet’s journey is defined not just by her formidable needle and agility, but by the versatility of her tools. The crafting system in Hollow Knight: Silksong is a critical part of her progression, allowing her to enhance her arsenal and overcome increasingly difficult foes. To truly become a master of the silk and steel, you must locate every Crafting Kit and Tool Pouch upgrade scattered across the land. These essential items are not always easy to find, often requiring traversal abilities and a keen eye for hidden paths. This guide will detail the location of every single upgrade, ensuring your tools are as sharp and plentiful as possible for the challenges that lie ahead.

The Purpose of Crafting Kits and Tool Pouch Upgrades

Before diving into the locations, it’s crucial to understand what these upgrades do. The two items serve distinct but equally important functions:

  • Crafting Kits: These are the most important upgrades for increasing your offensive power. Each Crafting Kit you acquire enhances the damage of all your “Red” tools, such as the Straight Pin, Sting Shard, and others. The effect is passive and cumulative, so collecting all of them is essential for dealing significant damage to later-game bosses.
  • Tool Pouch Upgrades: These upgrades directly increase your maximum capacity for tools. By default, Hornet can carry a certain amount of Shell Shards and tools. Each Tool Pouch upgrade you find increases this capacity, allowing you to use your tools more frequently before needing to rest at a bench to replenish your supplies. This is especially useful for tackling difficult boss encounters or long exploration sequences without a nearby rest point.

All Known Crafting Kit Locations

There are four total Crafting Kits to be found in Pharloom. They are often sold by merchants or rewarded for completing specific side quests.

1. Deep Docks Crafting Kit

The first Crafting Kit is a relatively early-game acquisition. You can purchase it from a merchant named the Forge Daughter in the Deep Docks region. You’ll need 180 Rosaries for this purchase. She is located in a chamber past a lift and a series of enemies, and you’ll find her near a bench, making it a convenient stop on your journey.

2. Greymoor Crafting Kit

This kit is not a direct purchase but a reward for completing a specific Wish side quest. You must first liberate the town of Bellhart by defeating the Widow Boss. Afterward, check the Wish board for a quest called Crawbug Clearing. The quest will lead you to the innkeeper Creige in the Halfway Home area of Greymoor. You’ll need to defeat Crawbug enemies and collect the scraps of cloth they drop. Once you have enough, return to Creige to receive the Crafting Kit as a reward.

3. Underworks Crafting Kit

This Crafting Kit requires a bit more effort and a specific traversal ability. It is sold by the Twelfth Architect for 450 Rosaries. To reach him, you must have unlocked the Clawline ability, which is obtained in the Cauldron. From the Underworks Ventrica Station, you’ll need to move east and use your Clawline to reach the Architect on a high platform above the Cauldron area.

4. Blasted Steps Crafting Kit

The final Crafting Kit is the most expensive and requires a late-game traversal ability. It is sold by a merchant named Grindle for a staggering 700 Rosaries. To reach him, you must have the Faydown Cloak ability, the game’s version of a double jump. From the Blasted Steps Bellway Station, you’ll need to use your new ability to navigate a tricky platforming section to reach Grindle’s shop, which is to the west of the station.

All Known Tool Pouch Upgrade Locations

There are also four Tool Pouch upgrades to be found, which are just as vital for maximizing your combat efficiency.

1. Far Fields Tool Pouch

This upgrade can be purchased from a merchant named Mort, located in the Far Fields region, which is east of the Deep Docks. You’ll need to acquire the Swift Step ability to reach this area. Mort’s shop is inside the Pilgrim’s Rest building, and you’ll have to pay a small Rosary fee to enter.

2. The Marrow Tool Pouch

This upgrade is a reward for a skill-based challenge. You can find a character named Loddie in the area below where Grindle was initially trapped. Loddie will challenge you to a game of skill where you must hit targets on a wall. Successfully completing this challenge will earn you a Tool Pouch upgrade. If you miss this challenge and progress to later acts, the upgrade can still be found on a table in the same room.

3. Greymoor Tool Pouch

Similar to one of the Crafting Kits, this upgrade is a reward for completing a Wish side quest. You can find the snail Nuu on the upper floor of the Halfway Home in Greymoor. She will give you the quest to catalogue 100 different types of bugs in Pharloom. This quest will likely be completed naturally as you explore and defeat enemies. Once done, return to Nuu for your reward.

4. Putrefied Ducts Tool Pouch

The final Tool Pouch is a reward for a longer, more involved side quest. After helping the Flea Caravan on their journey, you’ll eventually find them in the Putrefied Ducts region. Speak to the Fleamaster, Mooshka, in Fleatopia, and he will reward you with the final Tool Pouch upgrade, which will fully maximize your tool capacity.
