Trainers around the world, get ready for a scorching new challenge! Niantic has officially announced the next Mega Evolution making its debut in Pokémon GO. On Sunday, September 28, 2025, the powerful Fire/Ground-type Mega Camerupt will be the featured Pokémon for a special Raid Day event. This volcanic-themed event promises to be a great opportunity for players to add this new Mega Evolution to their collection, gather valuable Mega Energy, and test their raid teams against a unique and powerful foe.

Mega Camerupt Raid Day: Key Event Details

The Mega Camerupt Raid Day will run for three hours, from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. local time. During this period, every Mega Raid will feature Mega Camerupt as the boss, giving trainers a focused window to battle and catch this unique Pokémon. As with all Raid Day events, there will be several bonuses to help players maximize their efforts:

  • Increased Shiny Chance: The chances of encountering a Shiny Camerupt after a successful raid are significantly boosted during the event.
  • Bonus Raid Passes: Players can receive up to five additional free Raid Passes by spinning Gym Photo Discs during the event, for a total of six free passes.
  • Remote Raid Pass Limit: The daily limit for Remote Raid Passes will be temporarily increased to 20, from Saturday, September 27, at 5:00 p.m. PDT to Sunday, September 28, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. PDT.

For players looking to go all out, an event ticket will be available for purchase in the in-game shop and the Pokémon GO Web Store, which provides even more bonuses, including additional Raid Passes, increased XP, and more Stardust from raids. Be sure to stock up on Poké Balls, potions, and Revives to ensure you’re ready for the action!

Best Counters for Mega Camerupt Raids

Mega Camerupt’s dual typing of Fire and Ground gives it a glaring weakness that players can exploit. It is 4x weak to Water-type attacks, and also takes regular super-effective damage from Ground-type moves. Building a team around these weaknesses is essential for a quick and efficient raid. Here are some of the top-tier counters to consider for your raid party:

  • Primal Kyogre: With its incredible stats and powerful Water-type moves, Primal Kyogre is the absolute best counter to use against Mega Camerupt.
  • Mega Swampert: As a Water/Ground-type, Mega Swampert not only deals massive damage but also resists Fire-type attacks, making it a powerful and reliable choice.
  • Kyogre and Shadow Kyogre: Even in their non-Primal and non-Mega forms, Kyogre remains a top-tier choice for its raw power. Shadow Kyogre, in particular, delivers a significant damage boost.
  • Other Water-type Attackers: Great options to fill out your team include Mega Blastoise, Mega Gyarados, and high-level Kingler or Swampert.

Remember, successfully completing the raid is just the first step. You’ll need to defeat Mega Camerupt to earn the Mega Energy required to Mega Evolve your own Camerupt. The initial evolution is the most expensive, but subsequent evolutions are much cheaper, so focus on raiding as much as you can to get the energy you need.

The Broader September Event Calendar

The Mega Camerupt Raid Day is just one of many exciting events happening in Pokémon GO this month. Trainers have already participated in the Mega Sharpedo Raid Day and a Flabébé Community Day, and the in-game calendar is packed with other activities. This consistent stream of new content, including new Mega Evolutions and powerful Legendary Raid bosses like Palkia and Dialga, keeps the game fresh and offers new goals for both seasoned players and newcomers. Mark your calendars, get your teams ready, and prepare to take on the volcanic might of Mega Camerupt!
